Description

The subtle shift in the shadows beside him announced the ninja's arrival. And the fact that the scout did not immediately whirl with his blade drawn announced the deepening...'trust'...between the two allies. ~You have the package?~ Ilm's fingers signed in the silent Drow Sign language as soon as he'd hopped down beside his companion. Nymefein nodded and lift a small pouch from off his belt before letting it drop back down to hang loosely.

~And Drifner assures that he will have no difficulty in replicating others should we need them,~ the scout assured. ~Even without the explicit aid of the original crafter.~ A sly smirk touched Nym's full lips at his own words as he snorted a wry humored note. Ilm's head tilt as the fabric serving to mask his lower face crinkled as if to hint at his own grin.

~Ah, so that loose end has been disposed of as well.~

~No one will be able to track whom had these created or that they were ever made. Assuming we can trust in Drifner, or at the least, Bregan D'aerthe, in keeping secret the purchase then all is well.~ Nym shift his weight and allowed his cream gaze to drift out towards the busy markets down below the cavern shelf on which they stood. "Now...has Scald found her?" he asked, shifting the subject and the means by which he spoke. Ilm answered with a silent nod.

"He is certain he has discovered her patterns well enough to be able to intercept her," the ninja whispered. Nymefein smiled.

"Well then...let's go find our contact."

...

The bustling market bazaar was crowded. But amongst the various folk of all ranks and races, Talabyrr stood out somewhat. Her garb was intriguing and not many of the female whom wandered the streets bore such large blades. But more than anything, it was her single arm that truly helped her to stand out. Of course, no one dared stare too long...she was female still, after all. She might not have had the same menacing aura as the snobbish matrons and their haughty daughters but whom would dare chance it when the female had such a large weapon in which to exact her vengeance?

As she made her way along the streets though, one did dare drift closer. The broad-shouldered male subtly leaned out as he approached the woman from the opposite direction. Seeming by accident, he bumped his shoulder into hers. When Talabyrr glanced to him, Nymefein feigned a quick stumbling bow. A gesture he used to disguise the motion of lifting one hand before the lower half of his face...like a mask.

"Forgive me, Lady," he was quick to stammer, daring to glance towards her eyes to see if she'd caught his subtle motion. And then, lowering his voice he added, "But I've something for you...Something you and Lady Shakti might appreciate...."

Before Talabyrr could say much, the scout was dashing off as if too frightened by his blunder to stick around and wait for his certain death. Yet Nym ensured he led an easy path to follow, weaving through the crowds into the lesser used alleyways. Until, at last, he turned a bend into an abandoned isle behind quiet buildings. Mushroom groves spotted the alley where crates weren't stacked. Scald fret his fingers about themselves as he shifted from one foot to the other. At the sight of his drow master--or one of them at least--the kobold scooped up the pouch he'd been given to guard. Nym pivoted in place and casually made his way to lean against one wall.

Arms crossed in the sign of drow peace, he smiled slightly as the female rounded the bend shortly after him. He noted her slight wariness and nodded to himself, impressed yet further by this interesting female. Far more intriguing then the last one he'd been assigned to deliver a 'gift' to. The scout-spellthief drew in a deep breath and inclined his head. "Do forgive me, but it seemed best if we were to meet it was best to do so further from prying eyes and too-intrigued ears. This alleyway is magically ensorcelled to block--or buffer at the least--such endeavors."

Talabyrr's eyes narrowed slightly as she looked about, her stance showing she wasn't about to let her guard down. "Shakti sent you?" she asked after some moments.

"Not quite," Nym admit. "But I have heard some...interesting whispers about your Lady in certain circles. And I was assigned to bring you something that might prove of use to you and yours..." He lowered his cream eyes towards Scald and the kobold moved forward to offer out the pouch. Carefully, Talabyrr took up the item, testing its weight before even daring to look inside. She arched her brow at the small metal spider figurine as it spilled out onto her hand. "It's magical," the scout offered. "The activation word is 'abbil'. That small spider is able to animate and spin forth an invisible web when you ask it to. Something to catch your foes in to make them easier to capture or cut down..however you might choose. And I should think even one whom appreciates a bit of ...deception and games of shadowed or masked intrigue might still see some use in borrowing the symbol of a different, more prominent, deity...."

The woman's eyes narrowed slightly more at the hints of Vhaeraun's mention. "A potential convert?" she asked. Nym swept into a brief bow.

"Perhaps...perhaps I appreciate a...different outlook than many of the more common folk of this great City of Spiders. Perhaps not. But in either case, my loyalty belongs to the one with the greatest bid. I am a mercenary of sorts you might say...Have the spider checked over by a mage if you wish..or even a priestess to ensure its safety. If it will help ease your mind about it. And perhaps if it proves so intriguing and useful we might be in business once again..."

Talabyrr glanced down to the item in her hand and then back up...and only then was it she noticed the shadows shift near some crates as Ilm moved atop one of the large mushrooms. Yet neither scout or ninja moved to attack...and the kobold standing near to her only seemed to have expectant eyes. Nothing ill was happening yet...but then, she didn't need to know that the spider was also enchanted with an intricate tracking device. Nym casually wasn't mentioning that part.

The scout grinned again and then looked to his companion. "If nothing else...it was a pleasure doing business with you, m'lady."

"And just how are we to contact you again if we even wished to...?" Talabyrr asked as the men seemed to ready to leave. "You never gave me a name..."

Nymefein laughed. "Oh, I'm working on assuring my name is known by those that need know it...." he promised.

I entered the :icondrowshrine: group Secret Santa even though I already had my hands full with my own secret santa. But I'd intended to try to do 10 characters for my own and only ended up with 9 so entering Nym into a drow secret santa did make an even 10. Talabyrr's description caught my--and his--attention. She seemed the type of female that might intrigue him certainly. So I drew the scene of him gifting her the magical enchanted spider figurine and knew I wanted to write a little small, quick snippet about how it might unfold with him gifting it too. It was a lot of fun. Background was kinda drab and whatnot but they were a lot of fun to draw. Talabyrr's really neat looking. ^^; Hopefully her owner likes this! ^^;

Happy Holidays ^^
